Golf Lesson with CPGA Professional Scott Keenlyside at Highland Pacific Golf Course in Victoria BC. I had the opportunity to play Highland Pacific the other day and was confronted more than once with a tough, nasty little shot most folks including me struggle with during the round. The photo below shows the rough surrounding the green outside the apron area. This type of situation is very reminiscent of the famous TC Chen meltdown in the 1985 US Open where TC hit the ball twice in a single swing . These types of shots are really tough to approach with a conventional chip shot strategy and here is what I might recommend. Step 1… Use a lofted club like a Pitching Wedge, Sand Wedge, or 60 degree wedge. World Golf Tour Guide to choosing the right club can take strokes off your game. Learn how with this tutorial narrated by Peter Kessler. www.wgt.com Choosing the right club is important. In order to choose the right club you need to judge your distance, read your line, check the wind and pay attention to any changes in elevation. Estimated Club Yardage= Ball Flight + Roll Based on a shot on a level fairway with no wind If your ball is not on the fairway and there is wind you’ll have to judge the distance based on your experience. Lower numbered clubs = More distance and less loft Higher numbered clubs = Less distance and more loft Use a longer club when hitting uphill and a shorter club when hitting down hill. Have fun playing the game at www.wgt.com
